My musical journey
Hi, I’m Antonia - a pianist, teacher, and accompanist based in Tokyo. I offer piano lessons in both English and Japanese, and lessons usually take place at the student’s home, or at a piano studio.
I trained in classical piano performance at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where I completed both a Bachelor of Music (First Class Honours) and a Master of Music. I have performed as a solo pianist, accompanist, and chamber musician in venues including Silk Street Concert Hall, Milton Court Concert Hall, Handel and Hendrix House and the Royal Naval College Chapel.
I started taking formal piano lessons in Japan at the age of 7 from a local piano teacher using Japanese method books. I moved to the UK a few years later which exposed me to different teaching styles and piano syllabus (e.g. ABRSM). My love for classical music really started developing around this time, I would find every opportunity to be at the piano. I started attending the Junior Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London on Saturdays. A whole day immersed in music was a real highlight for me, and solidified my desire to pursue it as a profession.
Following this, I got accepted into the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with a scholarship where I completed my undergraduate and postgraduate studies focused on solo piano performance, alongside chamber music and composition. Today, I teach students of all ages and levels, supporting them with their musical journey. I really enjoy teaching, and since I have had many supportive teachers throughout my life, I strive to be the same for my students.
Teaching PhilosophyMy teaching is about sharing the joy of music while building musicianship, technique, and confidence. I teach students of all ages and backgrounds in a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment.
